Logo Design - where do I start?

Are you just starting up and in need of a unique logo that perfectly represents your business?

If you havent got any ideas, it can be quite daunting, but it’s really easy to get inspired, here’s my top tips!

  • Do your research

Pinterest is a great place to start, you can look at logos for businesses similar to yours but don’t get bogged down with this search. I recommend you look at logos in general, get inspired by colours, icons, fonts, backgrounds and styles!

  • Don’t overcomplicate it!

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when thinking about your logo, but try not to include too many details, prioritise the most important element or let the name do the talking! Not every logo has to have a clever element, sometimes less is more! For example, if you’re a plumber, it can be tempting to include icons that represent every side of your business, e.g a flame, water, pipes - the list goes on! All of these details can become a problem, if the logo needs to be used in a small area like on a business card, it might be hard to work out or even very large on the side of a vehicle, it could be overpowering. Think about it!

  • Think about where your logo will be used

Before you settle on an idea, where will your logo be used? On social media, as a watermark, on a business card, on the side of a vehicle? Make sure your vision can be used everywhere!

  • Be inspired, but don’t copy!

As tempting as it may be to send over a screenshot with the design brief ‘I want it to look like this’ it won’t do you any favours in the long run! You might find some designers that are happy to copy but I’m not one of them! I want to create a logo from scratch that perfectly represents you and your business - a little bit of work goes a long way, so using all the above tips, send me a design brief & I’ll be a very happy designer :)
